On March 14, 2023, Detective Mark Bahrijczuk and his partner observed a stolen vehicle. As they conducted a stop, the occupants fled the vehicle. Officer Bahrijczuk used his patrol vehicle to get ahead of the foot pursuit. As the suspect passed the car, he doubled back and opened fire with a .40 caliber handgun. Officer Bahrijczuk was hit 2 times, one round hit his right thigh and a second round went through his left forearm and then struck his armor. His Safariland SM02 Level IIIA armor stopped the round to his chest. The suspect was later arrested and charged with Attempted Aggravated Murder of a Peace Officer.
Detective Bahrijczuk was treated for his injuries and underwent physical therapy. He has returned to full duty.
