Fire Engineer Shaun Fitzpatrick

Independence Fire Department Clarkston MI Saves Club

On December 7, 2016, Fire Engineer Shaun Fitzpatrick was operating as part of a roof ventilation team for a commercial structure fire. While another crew was searching the building’s interior, they discovered a working fire in the attic located beneath Engineer Fitzpatrick’s crew on the roof.

Command immediately ordered the ventilation team to exit the roof. However, the firefighter cutting the roof was wearing a remote speaker-module (RSM) attached to a land mobile radio system (LMR) and could not hear the command over the loud noise from the saw. Fortunately, Engineer Fitzpatrick was wearing a TCI® Liberator II™ headset connected to an LMR and heard the transmission clearly.

Engineer Fitzpatrick was able to communicate face-to-face with his firefighter and they both cleared the roof. Within five minutes of their exit, the roof collapsed and the Command on scene credits Engineer Fitzpatrick’s TCI Liberator II headset with averting a tragedy.

We welcome Fire Engineer Shaun Fitzpatrick to the Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
