On September 29, 2022, K9 Officer Patrick Lauver responded to a call to assist in locating a homicide suspect that had fled in a vehicle and was engaged in a pursuit. As Officer Lauver was approaching the scene, the assailant fired on his vehicle and a 9mm round came through his windshield and hit his chest just above the nametape on his vest. His Safariland XT03 level IIIA armor stopped the 9mm round. Officer Lauver was treated and released. He has returned to full duty.
The assailant was taken into custody after the gunfight.
