On June 25, 2022, Officer Benjamin Gery was conducting a search for a shooting suspect who had fled on foot. Officer Gery located him hiding in the window well of a church and ordered the suspect to show his hands. The wanted individual immediately opened fire with a 9mm handgun. Officer Gery was hit on his chest and his Safariland® SM02 level II armor stopped the round. The suspect’s handgun jammed and he dropped it. Officers took the assailant into custody.
Officer Gery was treated, released and has returned to full duty.
