Officer Blake Cook

Fayetteville Police Department - North Carolina Saves Club

In July 2015, Officer Blake Cook of the Fayetteville Police Department conducted a routine traffic stop for expired tags. As he approached the vehicle, the driver – a man standing approximately 6’4″ and weighing over 300 pounds, stepped out of his car and moved toward Officer Cook. Recognizing the potential threat, Cook immediately ordered him to return to his vehicle. Instead of complying, the suspect suddenly charged at him, slamming Cook against the hood of his patrol car.

During the struggle, the suspect attempted to seize Cook’s firearm and disengage the ALS® lock on his Safariland® 6360 Duty-Rated Level III holster. The SLS™ strap, however, held firm and prevented the weapon from being drawn. For nearly two minutes, Cook battled to retain his gun before successfully triggering an officer-in-distress alert. Backup arrived just in time to help subdue the suspect.

Officer Cook credits his Safariland® holster with saving his life, giving him the critical time needed to resist the attack and call for help.

We welcome Officer Blake Cook as SAVE #2245 to The Safariland Group Saves Club®.
