On January 14, 2024, Officer Brad Steve of the East Rochester Police Department was handling a domestic disturbance call. The suspect produced a 9mm handgun. Officer Steve and the assailant exchanged gunfire, and both were wounded. One round struck Officer Steve in the abdomen. His Safariland® SX™ level II armor stopped the round. Both were transported to the hospital where Officer Steve was treated and released. The assailant was treated and placed into custody pending charges.
