On January 23, 2021, Officer Braden Downs of the Oklahoma City Police Department responded to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, as he started walking towards the residence, the suspect appeared in the front door and opened fire with a 9mm semi-automatic. Officer Downs was hit in the center of his chest but was able to stay in the fight, return fire and wound the suspect. After a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered. Officer Downs’s Safariland® Xtreme® XT03 Level II armor stopped the 9mm round to the chest. He was treated and released.
