On November 9th, 2021, the Boston Police Department SWAT Team was called out to a barricaded suspect. The team set up on the front and back doors with 4 Safariland® PROTECH® Intruder™ G2 Shields. The standoff lasted approximately 7 hours. Negotiations broke down and the suspect opened fire with a .45 ACP. Officers at the rear door took 4 hits on the shields as well as hits off the shields with 2 officers being wounded but staying in the fight; one was hit on the leg and one on the knee. The suspect then ran to the front door and opened fire at the officers outside. The officers there took hits on the shield, and one was hit in the lower leg. Officers stayed in the fight, returned fire, and ended the threat. All officers that were hit have returned to full duty except the officer hit in the knee. He’s still undergoing physical therapy but doing well.
