On March 23, 2021, Officer Bryan Sengo of the California Highway Patrol was seated in his patrol vehicle on the side of the freeway. A DUI driver, moving at a high rate of speed, crashed into the rear of his vehicle. Officer Sengo and his partner were trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. His Safariland SX02 Level IIIA armor had to be cut from him but protected his torso from severe injuries.
