On May 26, 2020, Officer Cody Stanton responded to a violation of a Protective Order with shots fired call, and one of the reporting parties stated he had been shot. Upon arrival, Officer Stanton grabbed his medical bailout bag and knocked on the front door to begin rendering aid to the victim. When there was no answer, Officer Stanton turned to move to a different location when the occupant opened fire from inside the house with a .45 ACP semiautomatic handgun.
Officer Stanton was struck in the left elbow and lower back. Officer Stanton’s Safariland® Summit™ SMO2 Level II armor vest stopped the round to his lower back. The officer moved to cover, applied a tourniquet to his arm, and awaited backup. When backup arrived, Officer Stanton extricated himself from the scene and was transported by ambulance to the hospital. The shooter was arrested without further incident.
Officer Stanton is recovering from the wound to his elbow and hopes to return to duty soon.
We welcome Officer Cody Stanton, SAVE #2079, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
