Officer Dominic Besse

Daytona Beach Police Department Saves Club

On August 29, 2020, Officer Besse was at a residence attempting to apprehend a male suspect who was wanted for a homicide. The suspect fled to a back bedroom shutting the door behind him. As Officer Besse made entry into the bedroom, the suspect opened fire with a .38 caliber handgun. The round struck Officer Besse in the chest. Officer Besse was able to stay in the fight and return fire. The suspect was fatally wounded in the gunfight. Officer Besse was taken to the emergency room where it was determined the .38 round that struck him in the chest was stopped by his GH Armor® GPAII-2. He was treated and released the following morning.
