On October 23, 2021 Officer James Rogers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the suspect refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. During the chase, a passenger in the suspect vehicle opened fire with a .223 semi-automatic rifle. Rounds penetrated the windshield of Officer Roger’s patrol vehicle and one round struck his chest hitting his badge and armor. His GH LiteX LX02 GPBII-3 armor stopped a round, while a second round struck Officer Roger’s duty weapon. Officer Rogers was able to drive himself to the hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries.
Suspects have since been arrested and charged in the incident.
