On January 31, 2004, Officer Louis A. Hardy Jr. of the Philadelphia Police Department Narcotics Field Unit was executing a search warrant. Officer Hardy was operating the ram and in the process of breaching the door. As the door opened, the offender opened fire with a 9mm. Officer Hardy was struck in the chest and hand. His Safariland® Protech® DT106E worn in a TAC™ PH Gen II carrier stopped the round to his chest. The assailant was taken into custody and has been charged with multiple felonies. Officer Hardy has recovered from the wound to his hand and returned to full duty.
