Becoming the first Second Chance® SAVE was bittersweet for Officer Gary Boiger. On March 7, 1972, while working undercover, Boiger was stabbed by a subject who approached Boiger and demanded money. The knife was deflected by Boiger’s Second Chance® bulletproof vest that he was wearing underneath his shirt. This allowed Boiger to continue pursuing the subjects. It is always a stressful and frightening situation when a police officer relies on their body armor to save their life. However, Officer Boiger was the first in what has become a revolution in wearable body armor, 1,000 SAVES strong.
We welcome Officer Gary Boiger, SAVE #1, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
