Officer Gavigan spotted a suspicious man walking down a busy road and attempted to stop him. As the officer approached, the suspect took off running and opened fire on the officer with a 40 caliber Glock. He fired at least 10 rounds hitting Officer Gavigan in the back with one of the shots.
