Deputy Crews purchased a Second Chance® vest on April 10, 1976. Four weeks later his investment paid off. En route to his midnight watch, Crews decided to detour around a traffic tie-up of hundreds of cars. He was met head-on by another vehicle and and his car was crushed. The chest injuries sustained by the impact should have killed him, but his vest was able to heed the brunt of the force, saving his life.
