Officer Grigas was in pursuit of a traffic violator when another car pulled out between the two speeding vehicles. Grigas hit his non-telescoping steering column at an estimated 50 MPH on impact with the interfering vehicle. Accident reports state Grigas” car stopped within five feet of impact. The cardiovascular surgeon in the emergency room indicated that were it not for his Second Chance® vest, Grigas would not have survived the impact.
