In November 1978, an Oakland County Deputy Sheriff was called to investigate a report of family trouble. On entering the home, the occupant leveled a small-caliber (.25) at the deputy and ordered the officer to drop his gun. When the officer refused, his assailant shot him in the chest. After firing a second shot at the officer, the deputy drew his own side arm, fired and killed his attacker. The officer was wearing a Second Chance® vest under his uniform shirt and was not injured.
