Officer Michael Malone

Pennsylvania State Police Harrisburg PA Saves Club

On January 31, 1979, all the luck was with this Irishman. While on routine patrol, Officer Malone responded to an officer needs assistance request from a neighboring township police chief. The chief was tracking an attempted burglary suspect and Malone responded by heading the subject off. While on foot, searching through dark corners of the trucking terminal in which the suspect was cornered, Malone had a 30-foot encounter with destiny. Seven shots were fired six from the suspect’s .22 and one from Malone’s service revolver. Two of the shots missed their intended targets, one of which was Malone’s. The other five hit Malone in the chest, protected by his Second Chance® vest. From the police report there were “two in the upper right chest area and what appeared as 3 holes in the lower left abdomen.” There had to be more than “luck” that night. It took a lot of “wisdom” to be wearing his Second Chance® bulletproof vest.

We welcome Officer Michael Malone, SAVE #134, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
