Deputy Nyberg’s patrol car was struck in an intersection by a Jeep Cherokee. Deputy Nyberg was in pursuit and was traveling about 50 mph at the time of the accident. His vehicle was forced off the road where he then struck a tree. The force of the impact pushed the engine of the car back about six inches. The steering wheel was severely bent, and the dashboard was compeltely destroyed. Deputy Nyberg received a broken right forearm, sprained right ankle, and minor low back and neck injuiries. His vest prevented him from receiving severe chest injuries that could have been life threatening.
