On April 7, Officer Hale responded to an officer’s assistance call. On arrival at the scene two men lay dead, one an officer the other a civilian bystander. Hale was met with .223 fire from the assailant, receiving a hit in the leg. While crawling under the rear of his unit, Hale took another hit in the chest. Before the bullet came to rest, it traveled through the car’s trunk lid. Though wounded, Officer Hale returned fire, permanently “disabling” his attacker. His Second Chance® Model Y vest “reduced the chest shot to a minor wound” whereby Hale was able to react to this violent situation.
