A suspect crept up behind Sergeant Winfrey and fired several shots at him. One of the shots hit Sergeant Winfrey in the left side of his back. The bullet then traveled upward and to the right toward the center of his vest. The round was later recoved from the bullet proof vest Sergeant Winfrey was wearing which protected him. He was not seriously injured.
