While driving to work in his personal vehicle, Officer Loflin was involved in an automobile accident when his vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree. Although the accident was serious and Officer Loflin had to be airlifted to a trauma unit, he was wearing his vest which prevented him from receiving serious chest injuries. He was treated and released 6 hours later. Officer Loflin was involved in a second incident in 2004.
