Officer Neumann was atempting to subdue a suspect who had pulled a knife on an employee of a grocery store. After stealing something from the grocery store, the suspect left and went into another store next door. When Officer Neumann arrived, the suspect was coming out of the second store and had a knife in his hand. The suspect refused to drop the knife and ran away. Backup arrived and the officers cornered the suspect who was holding a knife and a screwdriver. He was repeatedly asked to drop the weapons but he refused. The suspect charged the officers and Officer Neumann was slashed and stabbed in the chest with the knife.
