Officer Stanek was shot point blank with a 9 mm in the heart area during a routine traffic stop, The vest that the officer was wearing was borrowed from a friend because he had not been issued a vest from his department because he had only been out of the police academy for 2 weeks at the time of this incident. The vest he was wearing, even though it was expired at the time, stopped the 9mm bullet.
