Trooper Waycaster arrested a suspect on suspicion of DUI and was transporting him to take a breathalyzer test. The suspect was in the front seat of the patrol car as is the practice in the state of NC due to the fact that in highway patrol cars, there is no cage between the front and back seat. The suspect was able to get his hands on a razor-type blade thought to be a box cutter and slash Tropper Waycaster several times on the face, neck, arms and upper torso. Trooper Waycaster was able to draw his service weapon and fire two shots, killing the suspect. Trooper Waycaster was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The cut on the left side of his face was from his ear to his mouth.
We welcome Trooper Andrew Waycaster, SAVE #1640, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
