Officer Daniel Clark and Sergeant Mickey Hutchens were responding to a 911 call from a woman who said her ex husband was enroute to the restaurant where she was working. Her exhusband had recently been released from jail and had kidnapped his exwife two weeks earlier which prompted her to alert the police when she learned he was coming to the restaurant. When the exhusband got to the restaurant he was armed with a gun and demanded that employees get his exwife who was hiding outside in a back parking. He went to find her and she ran back into the restaurant where about 20 employees and customers were. The two officers arrived on the scene about this time and chased the man to a nearby creek where shots were exchanged. Both officers were shot and the man was killed. Sergeant Hutchens died later from the gunshot wounds.
