Raleigh Police Chief Heineman stated, “When we compare “what could have happened,” without the Second Chance® vest, we cannot overemphasize the value of Second Chance armor.” Officer Knight, on February 17, 1980, in attempting to apprehend a burglary suspect, was shot at point-blank range with his own service revolver. The impact was from a .357 police revolver using .38 special 110gr JHP+P ammo. The force struck Officer Knight over his heart in the left center of his chest.
