Trooper Eric Weingartner

New York State Police Troop E Canandaigua Canandaigua NY Saves Club

On June 17, 2012, Trooper Eric Weingartner of the New York State Police, assigned to Troop E based in Canandaigua, responded to a call in the village of Sodus of a suicidal 14-year old male.  Trooper Weingartner located the individual standing in the front yard wearing only his boxer shorts. As the Trooper approached to take the youth into custody the young man produced a knife and stabbed Trooper Weingartner in the chest.  Trooper Weingartner’s Second Chance® SM01 Level II (0101.06) armor stopped the knife and the Trooper deployed his Taser® gun and was able to successfully subdue his assailant.

Thankfully, Trooper Weingartner sustained no injury from the assault and the youth was remanded to the secure ward at Strong Memorial Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

We welcome Trooper Eric Weingartner, SAVE #1801, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
