On June 27, 2012 the Surprise Police Department’s Tactical Team was serving a search warrant at a residence. After knocking, announcing and breaching the front door, a suspect inside opened fire on the officers. The point man was carrying a PROTECH® Defender shield, Model 2035W, that was struck at least two times while team members returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect. No officers were injured in the incident.
