We are pleased to recognize an officer from an incident that occurred more than 15 years ago. Recently, we were informed that on January 27, 1998 Officer Kirk Sullivan was searching for an armed and dangerous parolee who was wanted in connection with a homicide. Officers located the suspect in the back yard of a residence and ordered him to drop the 9mm firearm he was holding. The suspect opened fire, hitting one officer in the neck and Officer Sullivan in the lower right chest. The 9mm round was stopped by Sullivan’s Safariland® Level IIIA armor and the officers returned fire fatally wounding the suspect.
