On June 5, 2013, officers from the Sunbury Police Department were involved in a pursuit that went 25 blocks through the urban area of Sunbury, Pa. After the assailant rammed into a police cruiser, officers attempted to take the assailant into custody when he placed his car in reverse and rammed a second cruiser operated by Sgt. James Taylor. The police cruiser was hit on the driver’s side, pinning the sergeant between the door and door frame. Sgt. Taylor’s Second Chance® SM01 Level IIIA vest and PROTECH® IMPACTM HT plate prevented him from being crushed and from receiving a cut injury to his chest.
The assailant further attempted to run over Sgt. Taylor, who then discharged his service weapon to stop the assault. We welcome Sgt. James Taylor, SAVE #1859, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
