On October 19, 2013, the McDonald County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team (SRT) was dispatched to respond to a barricaded suspect armed with a 12-gauge shotgun. The suspect was threatening suicide and, after several hours, the negotiations failed and the team made entry to take the subject into custody. As the team made entry behind a PROTECH® IntruderTM shield, the subject immediately opened fire with the 12-gauge shotgun. All 9 pellets of the 12-guage 00 buckshot were stopped by the PROTECH Intruder shield’s body and viewport with no injury to the shield operator, Deputy Seth Daniels. The team withdrew behind the shield and, shortly thereafter, a second shot was heard from inside when the subject took his own life. No member of the team was injured thanks to the PROTECH Intruder Shield.
We welcome Deputy Seth Daniels, SAVE # 1873, to The Safariland Group SAVES Club®.
