Officer Jerry Keefer

Jacksonville Police Department Jacksonville AR Saves Club

On November 22, 2013 officers from the Jacksonville Police Department SWAT Team were serving a narcotics warrant for methamphetamine. The team made entry and the subject fled to a bedroom slamming the door shut. Officer Jerry Keefer and a second officer moved to deploy a distraction device and the subject opened fire with a 16-gauge shotgun. Officer Keefer was hit by the shot and debris from the door. His PROTECH® TitanTM Assault vest with PT300 ballistics stopped the blast and Officer Keefer and his partner were able to return fire. The suspect was wounded and taken into custody.

Both the assailant and Officer Keefer were transported to local hospitals. Officer Keefer was treated where part of the blast had hit his arm and cheek, but he had no injuries to his torso where the blast primarily struck. The assailant will recover and has been charged with criminal attempt to commit capital murder.

We welcome Officer Jerry Keefer, SAVE #1874, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
