On December 19, 2013, Sergeant Chad Dorsett of the Franklinton Police Department responded to a residential armed robbery where a victim was shot. After stabilizing the victim, Sergeant Dorsett located the suspect, who claimed to have a hostage. Sgt. Dorsett attempted to talk with the suspect and draw him away from the hostage. The suspect then began to walk towards Sgt. Dorsett, but as he closed the distance, the suspect drew a concealed handgun and opened fire on the officer. Sgt. Dorsett was hit through his arm into his chest and was saved by his Second Chance® level II armor.
After shooting Sgt. Dorsett, the suspect moved back into the trailer and lit it on fire. Once the trailer was in flames, the suspect leaped from a back window where he was apprehended and taken into custody. Sgt. Dorsett is recovering from the gunshot wound to the arm and will return to full duty soon.
