On November 27, 2013, officers from the Inglewood Police Department responded to a report of a woman being dragged into a single family residence. Upon arrival, the officers attempted to make contact at the door to determine the welfare of the woman. However, as they approached the residence the suspect red through the door.

Two .45 ACP rounds hit Officer Joel Marquez in the upper left chest near his shirt pocket which were both stopped by his ABA® XT01 level II armor. After being shot, Officer Marquez was trapped outside below a window as the suspect continued to re at the officers from the inside of the same window.

In order to rescue Officer Marquez, an officer rescue was initiated and the team laid down cover fire and he was pulled out and transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Back at the scene, Inglewood SWAT set up and began negotiations with the suspect, which lasted nine hours before he surrendered and the hostages inside the home were rescued.
