Officer Dominic Orlando

St John Police Department St. John MO Saves Club

On February 27, 2014 Officer Dominic Orlando was on patrol when he observed a vehicle with an equipment violation.  As he attempted to stop the vehicle it fled at a high rate of speed and the officer followed. As Officer Orlando approached the intersection of Woodson Road and Natural Bridge Road, he saw that the vehicle had crashed and caught fire. Officer Orlando called for assistance to render aid and extinguish the fire.

As the officer and his back up support began to rescue the trapped occupants, the driver regained consciousness and drew a .410 gauge handgun. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon but the driver shot Officer Orlando in the lower chest and stom- ach area. Officers returned fire and eliminated the threat. They then contined the rescue and saved the female occupant from the burning vehicle.

Officer Orlando was taken to the hospital where it was found that his Second Chance® SummitTM ST armor had stopped the .410 gauge round which had spread and engaged the armor in four separate areas. Officer Orlando was treated and released from the hospital.

We welcome Officer Dominic Orlando, Save #1886, to the Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
