On February 4, 2014, Officer Charles Vill of the Cobb County Police Department pulled over a suspicious SUV. As he approached the driver’s door, the driver rolled down the window, leaned out and opened fire on Officer Vill with a .45 ACP semi-automatic handgun.
Officer Vill was struck five times. Three rounds hit outside the area protected by his armor – in his abdomen, left arm, right trigger finger – and he was also hit twice in the chest.
Officer Vill’s ABA® Xtreme Force FC01 Level II armor stopped the two rounds to his chest and he was able to move for cover and radio out a full description, which led to the capture, conviction and a sentence of 105 years in jail for his assailant.
Officer Vill was awarded the Medal of Valor for his actions. After months of physical rehabilitation and having to learn to shoot with his left hand, Officer Vill has returned to full duty.
We welcome Officer Charles Vill, SAVE #1909, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
