When Officer Banasiak arrived at a “family disturbance” call, two women already lay wounded with gunshot wounds to their heads. As Banasiak went to assist one of the women, a man exited the rear of the garage blasting 00 buck from his shotgun. One blast hit Banasiak as he dove for cover. The spray of pellets hit the officer’s head and hand with “several pellets tearing my uniform shirt” before lodging in the Second Chance vest. The suspect was fatally wounded in the answering volley of gunfire from the other police officers.
