Staff Sergeant John Townsend

Oklahoma City Police Department Oklahoma City OK Saves Club

On February 6, 2015, Officers from the Oklahoma City Police Department Gang Enforcement Unit were attempting to take a suspect with a confirmed warrant into custody. The suspect was reportedly involved in a recent armed robbery and was found in the passenger side of a vehicle in a residential area.

As the officers approached on foot, they ordered him to get out of the car. However, the suspect was trying to get the female driver of the vehicle to flee and so she pressed on the gas to rev the engine.

Officers removed the passenger side window with a baton strike and as soon as the window broke, the suspect opened fire on the officers. Officers then returned fire and struck the suspect. The driver was removed from the vehicle unharmed.

Staff Sergeant John Townsend was hit in the leg and back shoulder area. His ABA® HP01 Level II armor stopped the round to his back shoulder. He is now doing well with his recovery and will be returning to full duty shortly.

We welcome Staff Sergeant John Townsend, SAVE #1910, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
