On October 11, 2014 officers of the Cleveland Division of Police responded to a disturbance call where several males were fighting outside a residence.
Upon arrival, a male suspect drew a 9mm handgun and opened fire striking Officer John Lyons in the chest. Officer Lyons and his partner immediately returned fire and hit the assailant. Despite being hit, the assailant was able to flee and was apprehended about a block away from the scene.
Officer Lyons’ Second Chance® Summit SM01 IIIA armor stopped the 9mm round and he was treated and released from the hospital and is back on full duty.
