On December 16, 2014 deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suicidal suspect. When the deputies arrived, they were met at the front door by the suspect’s mother.
As she was providing the officers with an update on her son’s condition, the suspect came out the front door and attacked Lt. Stephen Dale Trogdon with a kitchen knife. The suspect swung the knife at the lieutenant and was able to stab him in the chest.
Lt. Trogdon deployed his Taser® weapon and, with the assistance of his partner, the assailant was taken into custody. Since then, the suspect has been charged with felonious assault of an officer.
Upon inspection of the body armor after the incident, it was discovered that the ABA® BR01 Level II armor stopped the knife from penetrating the vest and prevented the lieutenant from being injured.
We welcome Lt. Stephen Dale Trogdon, SAVE #1914, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
