On May 2, 2015, officers from the Cornelius Police Department responded to a family domestic incident between a mother and her son. Within a minute of the officers’ arrival, the son came down the stairs wearing body armor and shot Lt. James Quattlebaum in the abdomen with a 12-gauge shotgun. One of the other officers on scene returned fire wounding the assailant who was then taken into custody.
Lt. Quattlebaum’s Second Chance® ST01 Level II armor stopped the 12-gauge pellets that hit within the protected area. Some of the pellets hit below the vest and required medical attention, but he is now recovering and is expected to return to full duty shortly. The assailant has been charged with multiple felonies including attempted first degree murder.
We welcome Lt. James Quattlebaum, SAVE #1918, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
