On August 23, 2015, Deputy Eric Sloan pulled a motorcyclist over and asked for identification. The suspect, still on the motorcycle, stood to get his wallet, but instead pulled out a handgun and began firing at the deputy.
Instinctively, Deputy Sloan turned away from the threat and the first round hit his ABA® TOC pocket. The first round hit the carrier pocket and continued to travel sideways through the outer carrier and did not strike the deputy or the armor.
Deputy Sloan was then hit directly on the armor by the second shot but his ABA HP01 Level II armor stopped the round. Deputy Sloan began to return fire as he moved to the cover of his patrol unit. The assailant fled on the motorcycle and is currently still at large.
We welcome Deputy Eric Sloan, SAVE #1924, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
