On January 26, 2015 officers from the Clifton Police Department and the Greenlee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an anonymous call concerning a domestic violence situation. The caller referenced a truck being operated by one of the parties reported in the call. Sergeant Jason Mingura and Deputy Jon Mennen located and stopped the truck.
During the traffic stop, the driver opened fire on the officers. Both Sergeant Mingura and Deputy Mennen were hit but they were able to stay in the fight and return fire, fatally wounding the assailant.
Sergeant Mingura and Deputy Mennen were transported to the hospital where it was discovered that Sergeant Mingura was hit in the lower hip and through his left hand. The round that went through his hand hit him in the left chest but was stopped by his Second Chance® MR01 Level IIIA armor.
Deputy Mennen has returned to full duty and Sergeant Mingura is doing well with his physical rehabilitation and hopes to return to full duty soon.
We welcome Sergeant Jason Mingura, SAVE #1929, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
