Deputy Wallace Cunningham

Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office Dunlap TN Saves Club

On May 25, 2016, Deputy Wallace Cunningham of the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office was in pursuit of a vehicle. Once the suspect stopped, the deputy approached to take him into custody. The suspect then pulled a gun out and shot Deputy Cunningham two times. The deputy grabbed the gun and an intense struggle ensued. The suspect was shot with the weapon and Deputy Cunningham was able to disarm him and take him into custody.

Both Deputy Cunningham and the suspect were taken to the hospital for their gunshot wounds. Deputy Cunningham’s Second Chance® Monarch® level II armor stopped the 9mm FMC round that struck him in the abdomen while his duty belt and holster stopped the second round. Deputy Cunningham will be returning to full duty shortly. The suspect will recover and is facing attempted murder charges.
