On June 4, 2016, Officer Justin Fong-Borden was dispatched to a prowler call at an apartment hi-rise. When he got to the 8th floor, a bystander directed him to the 911 caller’s apartment. As soon as the officer stepped in front of the door, the assailant opened it and shot him in the abdomen. Officer Borden returned fire and hit the assailant twice.
Both the assailant and the bystander (who turned out to be an accomplice and the assailant’s cousin) were taken into custody. Officer Fong-Borden and the assailant were transported to the hospital.
Officer Fong-Borden’s ABA® XT02 Level IIIA armor stopped the 9mm round and he was treated and released. The suspect is recovering and both he and his cousin have been charged with multiple felonies.
