On July 8, 2016, officers were dispatched to a 911 call for a vehicle break-in. Unbeknownst to the officers, the caller was planning an ambush. As soon as Officer Hancock arrived and approached, the supposed victim opened fire and shot Officer Hancock three times in the chest. Officer Hancock immediately returned fire and incapacitated the assailant.
Officer Hancock’s ABA® XT02 Level II armor stopped two rounds, while the third round went below his vest, striking his abdomen.
Both Officer Hancock and the assailant were transported to the hospital and treated for injuries. Officer Hancock will be making a full recovery and the assailant is in jail facing charges including attempted murder.
