On July 13, 2016, Officer Shawn Rumenapp was patrolling on his police motorcycle at approximately 65 mph. As traffic was slowing ahead, an SUV in the next lane swerved into the side of his motorcycle. Officer Rumenapp was launched 70 feet into the air and came to a sudden stop when he collided with the center divider.
Officer Rumenapp received a severe head injury, fractured both elbows, both arms, both wrists, his right hand, six ribs, nose and thyroid cartilage. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was flown by helicopter to the hospital and has gone through five surgeries since. Officer Rumenapp was wearing a Safariland® Monarch® Level II armor which reduced the amount of damage sustained to his torso.
While each SAVES Club officer becomes a member of our Safariland family, Officer Rumenapp holds a special place in our hearts as he is the son of Lia Taubert, Safariland Customer Care Representative.
We welcome Officer Shawn Rumenapp, SAVE #1966, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
