Philadelphia Police Department Philadelphia PA Saves Club

On September 16, 2016, Philadelphia Police Sergeant Sylvia Young, was working a patrol detail in the 18th District. While parked and seated in her patrol vehicle, Sgt. Young was approached by an unknown suspect who began firing approximately 18 rounds at the driver’s side of her patrol vehicle.

The suspect fled the scene and officers pursued for a couple blocks when a gunfight ensued and the suspect was fatally wounded.

Sgt. Young was struck in the left shoulder, arm and torso area of her body and was transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition. At the hospital, it was discovered that Sgt. Young had been shot five times in her chest, which were all stopped by her ABA® FX02 Level II armor.

Sgt. Young and two of her daughters are special guests at SHOT Show this week being recognized in our SAVES Club® Award Presentation.

We welcome Sergeant Sylvia Young, SAVE #1968, to The Safariland Group SAVES Club.
